How I Got Scottie

Read The True Story

My Cozy Cat Thrillers (Books 1-3) all feature my actual cats: Scottie, Tanzy & Alley. Each feline has an original story as to how they came into my life. Here’s Scottie’s origin tale:

It all started with a bunny. You see, my daughter, Crystal, and I adopted a dwarf rabbit named Jack when we were living in an apartment that didn’t allow pets. I could smell a conflict coming if the landlord found out about the bunny. So we found a place that welcomed our furry hopper.

After moving in, my mother came over and helped me with some work in the backyard. The shed door was ajar so I opened it all the way and a Tabby came tearing out of the shed. He ran across the yard, jumped the fence and was gone.

“I think that cat was living in the shed,” my mom said.

Over the next couple of weeks, we saw the same feline in and out of our yard. We figured he was a stray.

One day I watched him scurry past the sliding glass door and decided to call him Scottie. We had assumed this grey Tabby was a male because he was such a big cat.

We left some cat food out for him, and he ate it. Soon, Crystal was able to pick him up, hold, and pet him. We decided to give him a home. But he wouldn’t come inside.

We kept feeding him and then it happened. I slid the glass door and screen open. Scottie stood by the fence and watched me. I stayed inside and called him.

I waved my hand for him to come in and slowly, he did. He sniffed around and eventually sat down on the living room rug.

“Scottie, this is your home now,” I said.

He seemed really happy after I said that. Kneading the air, he let out a loud purr. As it turned out, he displayed a loving attitude. The kind of kitty you can pick up and hold and kiss and love. He just sits in your arms loving it. One special kitty, he turned out to be.

Soon, we took him into the veterinarian for a check up and vaccinations. We found out he was about four or five years old, healthy, and had been fixed. So he had been someone’s cat. We figured he had been abandoned or lost. We never found out who had him before, so we kept him.

We hadn’t had a cat for several years, and it was great to have a puss again. Scottie got his forever home. A win-win for two humans and a cat.

Life is all about cats,
