How I Got Tigger (Tigerboy)

It all started with my mother. She had been without a cat since Sam, her Siamese, died 11 years earlier. Mom is allergic to most cats, but she loves felines so much. She missed having a cat.

She wanted another Siamese for two reasons. First, Siamese is her favorite breed of cat, and, secondly, Siamese cats tend to result in fewer allergic reactions. So we set out to find her a Siamese cat.

We visited several places, like pet stores, the local animal pound and the SPCA. Going into the SPCA, we saw many cute kitties, but none were Siamese. I entered one adoption room and saw a big handsome orange and white tabby. He struck me as a special cat.

I petted him and looked at his info sheet. His name was Lucky and seven years old. I immediately wanted to take him home. Lucky was laying on a cat tree when I went in. I was concerned about his temperament. Would I be able to hold him?

Cautiously, I picked him up in my arms. He lay still in my embrace for a few minutes then pushed to go back on the cat tree. I let him go. He gently returned to his spot. I decided to think about getting him. After all, I already had five cats living with me. The local legal limit was six cats in a single household.

I went home and couldn’t stop thinking about him. The next day, I returned to the SPCA. I walked in and was asked by the woman behind the counter, “How may I help you?”

“I’m here to get Lucky,” I said.

“Whaaat?!” she said, her eyes wide.

“I’m here to adopt Lucky,” I said, making myself clear.

“Oh. Aww.”

I was lucky he was still there. So I filled out the adoption form and was able to take him home the next day. I arrived the next afternoon with a cat carrier and took my new cat home. But I found his name didn’t suit him so I renamed him Tigger.

Although I changed his name, I was the lucky one for adopting him. He turned out to a gentle giant of a cat that I could shower affection on. And he loved to cuddle. I have no regrets in getting my Ginger boy. I love him. I feature Tigger as a character in my soon to be released Cozy Cat Thriller “The Cat Outside the Window.” (note: I named him Tigerboy in the book because Disney owns the name Tigger).
