Overnight With Cats: Two

Read The True Story

This is the second of three blog posts telling some cat stories I experienced as an overnight newspaper delivery man.

For several years, I delivered the local newspaper early in the morning, usually starting at 2:00am or so.

During these deliveries, I encountered quite a few late night animals, including cats.

But I had three more unusual experiences with cats that I am sharing with you.

Another dark, early morning, I walked along an upper class neighborhood delivering my newspapers. It was a cool, quiet night.

I spotted a long-haired black cat walking up a driveway. The feline didn’t seem to have a care. It would soon.

Out of the sky, a white owl with an immense wingspan swooped down and made a dive for the cat.

With its deadly hooks extended, it glided soundlessly toward the unsuspecting feline.

The owl connected with the cat, but its talons only caused some of the cat’s long fur to flip upward.

The bird of prey missed.

The cat looked up and saw the owl fly overhead.

That kitty took off underneath someone’s camper and disappeared.

The owl flew up to a nearby street light and landed on top of it. The bird “hooed.”

To witness that was amazing – and heart-stopping.

That was one lucky cat.

This incident shows why it’s best to keep cats indoors and out of the multitude of dangers they can face outside, including owls.

Life is all about cats,
