This is a series of blogs dedicated to the felines who disturbed my precious sleep. Next up is Alley, my Tuxedo cat.
Alley came to me as young kitten, a gift from my daughter. A playful, lovey kitty, I fell for this black and white ball of fur. She loved to play with just about anything. And she enjoyed demolishing toilet paper rolls I found out one morning. I woke to find the bathroom tissue ripped apart in a trail of white bits from the bathroom, down the hall and into the living room. At first, I didn’t know who did it. But soon Alley was tearing at the paper again as if it was a natural thing to do. I learned a lesson and bought a toilet paper container she couldn’t get at. But that wasn’t the only lesson I learned regarding my newest puss.
One night, I lay in bed reading and Alley joined me by cuddling next to my left hip. She was soft and warm and a delight to have next to me. She purred softly which helped me drift off to sleep. But my slumber didn’t last long.
At about 1:00am, I awoke up a start. My feet were in agony.
“Aaah!” I screamed. “Alley?!”
The young Tuxie decided to play with my resting feet, digging her claws and teeth in deep. I tried to shake her loose, but she held on tight. I reached down and pushed her off me.
“Alley, no!”
She lay on the bed looking at me, as if to say, “Don’t you want to play?”
“Out, out,” I said, getting up and tossing her out of my bedroom and closing the door. I checked my feet and found several holes in my skin. Yet, only a little blood. I wiped off the mess with a tissue and went back to bed.
No more sleeping with any Tuxedo cats – anymore. A decision I’ve stuck to. And now I have a healthier sleep and safe feet. A lesson learned, for sure.
