Why I Sleep Alone: Tanzy

Read The True Story

This is a series of blogs dedicated to the felines who disturbed my precious sleep. Next up is Tanzy, my Calico/Tabby cross.

Tanzy is quite a kitty. A feisty feline that is also cute and somewhat affectionate. When I first got her from my daughter, I knew it was going to take time to get use to her ways, including how she woke me up to get breakfast.

At first, she would come up to my bed and meow – loudly. Being someone who has difficulties getting my butt out of bed in the morning, I would often rollover and try to sleep until I was ready to get up. Eventually, she’d make enough noise that I’d finally get up and feed her and the other cats.

That went on until we moved.

At our new home, she continued with waking me up by ordering me to feed her. But she changed. Suddenly, she began by getting a good run at my bed and leaping onto my stomach, knocking the wind out of me. (If you read my book “The Cat Behind The Curtain: A Cozy Cat Crime Caper,” you’ll notice I used that in my book.)

This woke me up, for sure, and sometimes too early in the morning for me to be up – I’m talking like about 4:00am. I got tired of her unique method of waking her human up. So I decided it was time to sleep alone. No cats in bed with me – no being disturbed early in the morning.

So now I sleep alone with the bedroom door firmly shut. This helped and kept a cat from jumping on me. But I didn’t always get all the cats out of my bedroom every night as you’ll see in my next email.
